Sandals for Summer

Summer Sandals

Summer has arrived here in Texas, which means we're all wearing less clothing. It's hot y'all. I desperately need new sandals because there's no way I'm wearing flats all summer long. Seeing as how I'll be wearing them every day, I don't want to spend a fortune on them. I've sat out to find the perfect pair of sandals. Or the perfect 4 pairs. Don't tell B.

Let's Do the Derby

Y'all, this weekend is a big one here in the south. Not only is it Cinco de Mayo (which us Texans take very seriously), it's also the Kentucky Derby! I love a good horse race, but I love the fashion and the drinks even more! (Side note, if you don't know how to bet on a horse, here are a few tips!) So let's talk Derby fashion, shall we?

Let's start with the dress. Most dresses are a spring color, and it doesn't need to be flashy, as the hat is the show stealer. Since the hat is the center of attention, jewelry shouldn't be too over the top either.

Now, let's talk about the hat. The pièce de ré·sis·tance. The hat is everything at the Derby. The more fabulous, the better.

See? Fabulous! Add a great pair of heels, a clutch, and a nice Mint Julep, and you're ready to watch the ponies. Happy racing, y'all!

Black and Yello... Er, I Mean Brown.

Friends, let's chat. I've talked before about my not-so-fashionable self, and how I'm trying to change that trait of mine. One of the terms of Year of the Lady for me was to wear more dresses. Now, here's the thing. When I say "more dresses", I mean dresses period. As in, before the first of the year, I didn't own a single dress. I now own two, and I love them. They're so fabulous. One is a bit dressier, and the other can be dressed up or down, so it's my favorite. Wanna see it?

That isn't me, obviously, but isn't it cute!? It's got a lace overlay and pockets. Pockets, y'all! Anyway, the belt is brown, which I wasn't so crazy about, because I haven't ever felt like I could pull off black and brown together. But, I figured I'd give it a shot. So, I paired the dress with black tights and knee high flat heeled boots. And honestly? I loved it! (I'm really regretting not taking a photo to show y'all!)

So, this is my question, how do y'all feel about black and brown together?? Is it a yes, or a no?

Award Winning Style

Did you catch the Emmys last night? I always say I'm going to watch an awards show, and always end up missing it, so I made a point to catch it last night.

I was really impressed with a lot of the fashion this year, and equally disappointed at some. Then there were definitely some, "What were you thinking!?" moments.

I loved, loved, loved Ginnifer Goodwin's look! I think she pretty much always looks classy and stylish, so she definitely didn't disappoint. From the dress, to the accessories, to those shoes (love!), she was by far one of my favorites.

I also really loved Kat Dennings look, though I will say she looks a lot thinner. Not that it's a bad thing, but I loved that she rocked curves, and now she's rocking much less.

Work it, Giuliana!

Jessica Pare looked so chic and sophisticated! And I love those bright lips!

Now, for my not so favorites...

Zosia Mamet... honey, no. Just no.

I had high hopes for Amanda Peet, because I love her, but she ended up looking like she forgot her dress and came out in a slip. Sorry, Amanda, I just don't like it.

Julianna Margulies... I can't even. I'm not saying her dress is ugly, I'm just saying that my grandma had drapes made from the same material in 1987.

Having Zooey Deschanel on my "Not So Favorites" list makes me a bit sad. I adore Zooey! And yes, I understand her style is "quirky", but this is like a badly homemade junior prom dress. I did like her hair though, and her nails were too cute!

What did y'all think? Who did you love and who did you hate? And who else loved the opening with Jimmy Kimmel crying in the bathroom?

So There's These Plum Skinnies...

So.... I bought skinny jeans. Plum skinny jeans to be exact. And, surprisingly, I love them. I want to wear them everyday. But definitely wash them often. Cause, eww.

Anyway, I'm going to be honest with y'all. I love fashion. Like, love, love, love, lovelovelove, fashion. But fashion scares me. I've talked before about how I'm not thin, yes, I am plus size, that's no big secret, and that has played into my fear of fashion. I was all, "I'm a plus sized woman, I should just stick to jeans and tees!" But, I'm here today to say, "NO MORE!" I will openly love fashion, and I don't care what others think. Except for y'all, I definitely care what y'all think!! I'm getting off topic here.

The point is, I bought plum skinnies!! I took a big ol' leap and bought colored skinnies. And I'm so glad I did and will be blowing a lot of money on more colored skinnies in the near future. So, since I'm embracing my love of fashion, I signed up for Polyvore, and I'm already addicted. I styled the fabulous plum skinnies three different ways. Wanna see what I came up with?

Plum Skinnies Take One

Plum Skinnies Take Two

Plum Skinnies Take Three

Plum Skinnies Take Three by ohheyitsj featuring oversized watches

This last one is made up entirely of things I own. When I bought the skinnies, I also bought the top and the flats. I wanted to make sure and keep everything in the three looks affordable. I love fashion, but I don't love a high price tag.

So, what do y'all think? Are y'all digging the whole colored skinnies trend?
