I'm always at a loss of words when this day rolls around. So, because I have no words, I'm reposting this from last year and the words still ring true. May we never forget, may we always stand united.
************
All I'm going to say is that my heart, just like many other Americans, is heavy today. And that, for the last ten years, the 2,819 victims have never left my mind. They've been there, in the shadows, maybe out of thought, but never fully gone. My heart hurts for the loved ones left behind.
That day shaped the rest of my life. It's the reason I wanted to become an EMT. And the truth is, that day changed all of us.
We are all different than we were before that horrible day, even if it's just in a small way. The biggest change is that it has divided us as a country.
I won't go into my feelings about what our country has become, because that's not what I'm trying to do here. I just want everyone to see, that no matter your race, gender, religion, or political party, we are all Americans. We should always stand united. We should care for each other, and support one another.
I hope that as you hug your friends and family today, you remember that day. That you remember what you felt when you heard the news, and that you remember the feeling that all Americans had for a few weeks after the attacks. We stood together, we were one. We were all brothers and sisters. And then, just like that, it was gone.
I wish, for my sake, for your sake, for my daughter's sake, that we could stand united once again. That we could stop bickering with each other long enough to realize that we live in an amazing country, one that we should take pride in, not be ashamed of.
So please, even if it's just for today, put aside your political beliefs, put aside your religious beliefs, put aside your hatred for others, and love your fellow Americans. Because you never know what will happen in the next second. 2,819 people had no idea they would die on 9/11/2001, and you don't know when you'll go either.

May We Never Forget
