Why Don't We... Stop Being So Negative

I'm going to let y'all in on a little secret. I have horrible self esteem. OK, that's really no secret, I'm fairly certain that 9 1/2 out of 10 women have self esteem issues. It's as common as blondes in Hollywood.

Anyway, last night I was thinking, why are we so negative? So hard on ourselves? We, as women, are amazing creatures. Y'all, we can grow other people!! That's huge! We can be beauty queens, and CEOs, and actresses, and firefighters, and doctors, and lawyers, and singers, and designers, and mothers, and the list goes on and on and on. We are fabulous. So why do we hate on ourselves so much?

It's no secret that I've struggled with body issues most of my life. I've looked in the mirror time and time again and hated what I saw. But why? Why did I hate the person looking back at me? I am beautiful, whether I'm overweight, underweight, or just the right size. What I look like shouldn't determine what type of person I am, just the same as your weight/looks/clothing shouldn't determine who you are. We should strive to be good people. We should lift ourselves and each other up, instead of knocking everyone down. Because when we're good people, we're beautiful, no matter what. Beautiful insides lead to beautiful outsides.

Instead of looking in the mirror and pointing out our flaws, why not point out our good points? I love my smile and my eyebrows (weird, I know). When we're feeling down, why not lift ourselves up with positive thoughts, instead of filling our head with negative things? The next time we feel the urge to talk down to (or about) someone, why not pay them a compliment? I'll admit I struggle with this one.

I look at my beautiful daughter and my heart aches to think that one day she may have negative thoughts about herself. I want to teach her to be positive, to love everything about herself, and to send out positive thoughts to others. If we taught the younger generations nothing but positive things, can you imagine the impact that would have on the world?

This is my challenge for you: if you have a negative thought about yourself today, forget it, immediately, and replace it with a positive one. If you have a negative thought about someone else, smile at them, or, even better, give them a compliment. There's absolutely no point in beating yourself or someone else down. We, my darlings, are fabulous women. Don't ever forget that.

If, by chance, there are any men that read this blog, sorry, this post wasn't really geared toward you that much. But I'm sure you're fabulous too!

27 in 27

Hello my darlings! It's been a few days since I checked in, but I have been busy, busy, as I'm sure you have too!

I just wanted to make a quick little post to say hi, tell you you're looking beautiful, ask how your mother is... No, seriously, I wanted to say sorry for not being around much, this 31 Days project is a lot harder than I thought it would be. Though, I didn't really pick an easy subject. Changing myself isn't so easy.

OK, let's take a look at what I've accomplished this week, shall we?

  • I've worked out 3 times (goal was 4, though I have it on the agenda for tonight!)
  • I cleaned and organized one of our storage closets. The others are begging to be organized, they're next on the list.
  • We hit up the pumpkin patch. And had an insanely amount of fun.

Fun and silliness are both keys to being a better you!

  • Finished almost all of my laundry
  • Finished M's Halloween costume (OHMYGAH SO CUTE!)
  • Cleaned out my DVR
Now, ok, maybe that last one isn't a huge accomplishment, but it was an area that was giving me stress, so it counts! I plan on working on my car and closet this weekend, so I'll be able to check those off as well.

I also started a mini project today. There are 27 days until my 27th birthday (counting today, and stopping the day before my birthday). I've wanted to do something that can help me grow as a person that coincides with my birthday. So, for the next 27 days (including today!), I will do 27 random acts of kindness. They can be small acts (opening a door for someone), or much bigger acts (buying groceries for someone), as long as they are acts of kindness. I'm making a list for about half of the acts, and the rest I will play by ear.

I know this may not make sense to some, but I feel like it will help me be the better person that I want to be. I'll be doing check ins every now and then, probably along with my 31 Days check ins. And I promise, I'm going to start to try to blog more often about things other than the 31 Days project!

I hope you all have fabulous weekends, and if you're up for it, join me in my random acts of kindness, and do something sweet for someone else. It'll make you feel good.

X's and O's, m'dears!

31 Loooooooooong Days

Y'all, this is going to be harder than I thought. See, here's the problem, I have the motivation, there's definitely no lack of that thanks to pinterest! However, being motivated does not necessarily make me get my rear end off the couch and do something. There are far better things to do. Like watch Boy Meets World marathons.

But, I'm doing it. I'm working my way to a better me, even if it's just a little bit at a time. Since officially starting my 31 Days to a Better Me 4 days ago, I've cleaned out M's closet, went shopping for her some colder weather clothes, washed almost every piece of dirty laundry, started on M's Halloween costume, and started working out again. And by started working out again, I mean I went for a jog/walk yesterday and it ended up being a jog/walk/crawl home because OMG EVERY MUSCLE WAS SCREAMING BLOODY MURDER! But at least I worked out a bit, that's what counts, right? Oh! But I did go from blonde to brunette. I am counting that in this project, because my hair is 1000x healthier!

I'm still working on my "official list" of things I want to accomplish during these 31 days, but I'm almost finished with it. I know this week I plan on organizing my pantry (boring but extremely necessary, I bet I've got food in there from before M was born!), cleaning my car (again, very necessary!), purging my closet, and working out at least 4 times. But, it's not all work and no play on the agenda, we're planning a trip to the pumpkin patch this week!

Hopefully you all had fabulous weekends! Happy Monday m'dears!

31 Days... A Little Late

I always love the beginning of a new month. I love the beginning of anything really, but especially a new month. It's like having a clean canvas, and you can paint it however you want.

Every October Nesting Place hosts an annual 31 days series. You can choose whatever you want to do, but you dedicate 31 days to it. Yes, I'm a little late, seeing as how it's the 4th, but I actually started two days ago. I looked through some of the topics that others were doing, and while they all sounded great, they just didn't fit me. So, I figured I'd do my own topic. I tossed around a few ideas, and decided on something. Actually, I decided on everything. I would a 31 Days to a Better Me series. I will try to better every aspect of my life.

My entire life has been out of control lately. I've gotten away from the Cardboard Box Diet, I've stopped working out, I've let my laundry pile up, and I'm not even going to start on how unorganized my life house is right now. Basically, I'm a hot mess. So, I'm dedicating October to getting everything straightened out. I'm going to start eating better again, I'm getting up off my rear end and moving, and I'm going to start organizing and purging things. Everything will be healthier. My home, my body, my family, my life. Everything will be better.

I plan on working on a list today of exact things I'd like to accomplish. I started on Tuesday with cleaning out M's closet, and yesterday I made a big dent in our ever growing laundry pile. I won't be blogging about this daily, because I feel like y'all won't want to read about it daily, but I'll be updating here and there. I'll do more updates on the twit and fb, so you can follow me there if you'd like.

If you're going a 31 series, I'd love to hear about it! And if you aren't, obviously I think it's never too late, pick a topic, and get after it!

Happy Thursday, my loves, only one more day until the weekend!
